Will Machines Replace Us in the Future?

The future success of the Google driverless car is going to be a slow process. The expected date is in the year of 2018. Whether it is easily acceptable is an important question and one not yet answered. The autonomous car most likely will face repercussions that will delay the time for it to reach critical mass in its diffusion process. Trusting a robotic car with your life is the first thing individuals need to adapt to which is a scary and contemplating thing to do. The Google car is basically artificial intelligence, “the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision making, and translation between languages” (Oxford University Press).
Much of our lives depend on the automobile. The invention of the mobile car shaped the way we live and renovated our cities. A lot of things would not be possible without the use of transportation by mobile cars. It gives us independence and freedom. The robotic car is still being modified and tested, thus symbolizing that it is still in the early modes of production. A lot of the technologies in these autonomous cars are being found in today’s vehicles. In my opinion, following the study of diffusion, I believe this innovation will not make it in current society. With all the special features coming out in automobiles today, America will be satisfied; we do not need the extra stuff. I believe there are a lot more negative consequences than positive. The government would have to reshape laws and insurance claims amongst other variables. We live in a world where we are already overly reliant on technology. By creating these driverless cars, America will become even lazier and even more dependent on technology. There will be so much freedom that people will not know what to do with themselves. America would be home all day and send the car to do their daily activities like picking up the children from school, taking them to the mall and picking up grandma from the house. We are already the fattest country in the nation and surely this will be no help to lessen that variable. This also reduces face-to-face communication, which is slowly decreasing in the United States. Soon, people will not need to learn the street rules and regulations, nor get their license because of the hands free car. Nonetheless, in the future, I believe the autonomous car will definitely revolutionize our society, but in today’s civilization, it is not necessary and certainly something that needs to be improved on if ever presented in the future.
